Although women in general account for the vast majority of all cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in the United States [91% in 2012, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, or ASPS], the gender breakdown in this medical field is becoming increasingly less lopsided. Men are increasingly joining in --- revealing that the desire to look good is becoming increasingly universal.
"Hollywood" (the entertainment industry), of course, is ground zero for both good and bad cosmetic plastic surgery. The good is good; but the bad is really bad. It should be remembered by those seeking it that cosmetic plastic surgery is in fact serious medical surgery that, as in all surgeries, is subject to risks, complications and mistakes.
There are several admonitions and suggestions I make to my clients regarding cautions in cosmetic plastic surgery, but just a few of them follow:
"CAVEAT EMPTOR" --- BUYER BEWARE
- Make sure surgeon is Board Certified by American Board of Plastic Surgery.
- Consult with at least 2 or 3 different certified plastic surgeons
- Research your surgeon.
- Ask about your plastic surgeon on the with knowledgeable sources.
- Search your plastic surgeon's last name on the in multiple forums.
- Google your plastic surgeon's name.
- View your surgeon's before/after photos, particularly befores similar to your own.
- Bring photos of what you'd like to look like.
- Make sure the surgery center is accredited.
- Insure that your surgeon agrees to take before and after photos of you and your surgery.
