MARYLAND NEW LAWS 2013: As well as new 2013 laws in other states

New Laws 2013

- Same-sex marriage is now legal in Maryland and Maine.

- Recreational use of marijuana is now legal in Colorado and in Washington state.

- Employees' social media account "passwords" can no longer be required to be provided to employers in Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, California and Illinois.

- Job openings are no longer "allowed" to be posted in Oregon by employers, unless the employers are willing to hire the "unemployed."

- Arsenic is now banned in chicken feed in Maryland (This is a measure designed to protect the Chesapeake Bay from pollution with toxins).

- Sexual orientation. California has now banned any treatment targeted at changing the sexual orientation of someone who is under the age of 18.

- Sharks. Effective immediately, the sale, trade, and possession of shark fins is illegal in Illinois.

- Swamp buggies in Florida no longer need to register as motor vehicles.

- Feral (wild) hogs can no longer be released into the "wild" in Kentucky. Oops! J

- Motorcyclists in Illinois can now "proceed through a red light if the light fails to change." (Good-luck with this one, Illinois motorcyclists!)J

- Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Alaska became the 31st state to require health insurance companies to cover the diagnosis, testing and treatment of autism spectrum disorders for people up to the age of 21.

- Sex offenders can no longer dress up as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, or give out candy during Halloween in Illinois.

- Minimum wage. Ten states have voted to raise their minimum wage in 2013: including Arizona, Florida, Montana, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island and Washington state, among 3 others being "worked out" (Colorado, Missouri and Vermont).
