Degrading elder patients in nursing homes can result into a variety of complications. Verbal threats at patients in order to manipulate them is one of the most common forms of emotional abuse. Emotional abuse results in mood swings, anxiety, depression, confusion and a variety of other behaviors. Emotional abuse takes many forms from verbal comments to neglect. Elder victims become quiet during this period of abuse because they fear speaking out may result in more harm.

Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse occurs when a patient has been forced into unwanted sexual activity. This can occur when the victim is sleeping, ill, or too weak to verbally give consent. Nursing home residents are most likely to be sexually abused by staff members, other residents, visitors or even a family member.
